Society for Italic Handwriting

In May 1997 The Society launched
The Good Handwriting Initiative.

The cover of the new Schools' Pack The Society's aim is always to promote good handwriting and good handwriting teaching. Italic or the Italian style is really the basis of all modern western handwriting. The SIH has asked Christopher Jarman, as one of the country's foremost teachers of good handwriting, to prepare the schools pack which was launched in May 1997.

The pack contains resources to help teachers and children directly, plus samples and examples from publishers and software companies that are consistent with the aims of the SIH and of the National Curriculum.

A particular concern is to help those Teachers at KS1 who wish to begin teaching cursive (ie joined-up) writing from the first day in reception.

The illustrations show a very small part of extracts from some of the software which is now available for schools.
