Parents and Handwriting

Many parents would very much like to help their children with their handwriting. If this is so, it is really best to check with your child's school on the style and the method they support. It will not help your child if you attempt a way of working that conflicts with the school's way, however strongly you feel about it.
Handwriting is not a religion! It is a physical activity which is culturally determined, and styles are to a certain extent a matter of opinion and conformity.
Nevertheless, in our European Western tradition our handwritten alphabet was originally designed in the 16th century with some basic rules. These same rules apply whether one is writing in the so-called Palmer style or Copperplate or Italic styles. All styles of writing cursively, actually have much in common.
